The school I work in is an inner city district in New York. Ninety percent of the student population receive free or reduced lunch and live in low income housing or apartments. My specific school has been open for only 7 years. It is brand new, bright and clean but severely lacking technology. The specific students I work with are struggling readers who have scored a 2 or a 1 on the New York State ELA exam. The majority of my caseload is from our 6th grade class which is 52 students. They all struggle with their reading skills and strategies and none are preforming within 1 year of their current grade level. My goal is to inspire them to love reading, while strengthening their weaknesses and get them as close to the 6th grade reading level as possible.
