I teach a 4th Grade ICT class where 40% of my students receive Special Education services and 60% are in General Education. They are full of energy and enthusiasm and all have unique personalities that brighten my day. The challenging part is making sure they are engaged and focused at all times. They require a lot of attention and one-to-one assistance. They love being in school and learning. Besides having Special education students in the class we also have English Language Learners, a child with hemiplegia, and many diagnosed with ADD.
Our public school is in a low income area and many of my students are from housing projects in the neighborhood. Some families can not afford to supply their children with even some of the basic tools needed for learning.
