"All children have gifts, they just open them at different times." My students are considered challenging. They have learning or behavior differences that often cannot be addressed in a general education classroom. These students show the most progress in a smaller group setting in which there are hands-on learning experiences. The school is located in a low income Title 1 school district in an extremely rural area in Southeast Oklahoma. Most of my students come from broken homes, poverty-stricken homes, have an addicted and/or incarcerated parent, or live in foster care. They are all functioning well below grade level or have sensory deficits and behavior that is considered detrimental to learning. These students are bright and hungry for experiences that showcase their strengths.
