Flexible seating caters to students' different learning styles and allows them to take charge of their learning. Students have control over their learning environment by being able to choose seating that best meets their learning needs. Currently, my students are able to choosing from various seating areas including standing desks, sitting on cushions at a low table, laying on the floor in bean bags and sitting on wobbly stools. When my students are comfortable, the engagement and focus on their learning greatly increases. Flexible seating allows students to move and get their wiggles out while still learning.
Flexible seating not only allows for students to take charge of their own learning, but also gives them opportunities to collaborate and build a community. Traditional desks in rows can isolate students from one another, but flexible seating easily allows students to pair up or form small groups. Also, traditional desks can make students possessive over their space and supplies. Flexible seating encourages students to share space and supplies and create a caring community. Flexible seating provides opportunities for students to choose seating that fits their learning style, comfort level and that encourages high levels of productivity.
The products that I have selected will provide my students with additional seating options to help them make more effective learning choices. The Soft Zone Butterfly stools will allow for different comfortable seating options. They are also easily movable which makes them a great asset for collaborative activities. The Inflatable Empire Chairs are wonderful options for comfortable seating and can be easily moved into different seating areas. Finally, the carpet with positive words will not only bring a cozy place for students to gather on the floor, but will also promote kind words for our classroom community.
