My students are simply amazing. Although 76% of our school's students are at or below the poverty line, they are selfless and find ways to give all they have. They attend school in a 100-year-old building that occasionally has sewer issues, heating and air conditioning problems, and tainted water (no, really. It contains uranium and is unsafe to drink); nevertheless, they persevere. They arrive at school early and stay late; they volunteer for community activities; they support each other; they know poverty. These are my kids; these are our kids.
