After watching a short video on former Patriot player Malcolm Mitchell, where he joins a local women's book club just to become a better reader, my students joked about starting book clubs in class. Little did they know that was exactly what I intended to do! Having just changed grade levels for the second time in two years, I am finding that the books I currently have for book clubs are not as challenging or interesting to my 8th graders.
Eighth graders need high-interest books if we want to get them invested in their reading. The books in this project are high-interest and offer a variety of challenges for my students. My students will be able to choose what books they're reading, set up expectations for work and discussion, and take ownership of their learning.
