My students live in a rural community, many of whom have never ventured outside our region. Others have come to our region from Mexico and are learning to live and learn in a new culture and master a new language. All the students embrace tradition and want so much to do well in school. Our school is named after a Congressional Medal Honor winner who continues to inspire us. Our school only opened two years ago, so we are still building our own learning community. It is a privilege to work with these students and families; they are some of the hardest working people I've seen in my 26 years of teaching.
