Every day after lunch students spend 15 minutes reading a book of their choice at school. Students also read independently in English classes, and hopefully at home. We know based on surveys that most of our students have few or no books at home, so they rely on our school and classroom libraries to provide them with books.
Most of our students read below grade level, so they need lots of high interest books at their own reading level to help them build their reading muscles and get into the reading habit. When students connect with the right book or series of books they get so excited! We will use these books to match our students with books that will keep them reading for life.
