My students are AP and regular junior English students. They are very comfortable with technology as they live and attend school in an upper middle class suburb. We engage in student presentations often because the best way to ensure my students learn is to have them teach concepts to their peers (with my guidance). While on the outside our school looks very nice, on the inside we have computers and equipment that often is ten years old, and we have no funding to replace it--not unusual in California. I think it's important for students to be able to engage in the use of technology in the classroom because that prepares them for college and the world of business.
