Often times they are asked to complete writing assignments for their content-area classes outside of class, and with their deficits this creates a source of anxiety. My students have difficulty understanding what they read, solving math problems, organizing their work, putting their thoughts and ideas on paper, and paying attention in class. They learn differently, and because of that, they have to be taught compensatory strategies in order to be successful in the general education classroom. Many of these strategies are made easier through the use of a computer so sentences can be read out loud, ideas can be cut and pasted, and basic math skills can be reinforced.
