Many of my students come from a family background where there is no access to quality books at home. Although their rotating schedule brings them to media center periodically, they often don't have sufficient time to browse through the books and make sure they pick ones that will hold their interest and nurture their reading ability, their love of reading, and their vocabulary.
I would love to offer them access to an ample supply of quality books right in their own classroom, with the time to peruse them and make individual choices. I believe strongly that they should be reading every day and always have a book available for their nightly reading. They simply do not have the opportunity to do this at present.
