My school is a Title 1 school serving 987 culturally diverse students (27.7% African American and, 68% Hispanic.) The school surpasses the district, and the state by all academic risk factors including, 93.7% economically disadvantaged, 82.2% at riskÃÂÃÂ, and 67.8% limited English proficiency. My classroom this year is composed of 17 placed (low proficiency in all content areas) minority students, 5 English as a second language, and 1 special education student. With these students it is critical to meet them where they are and build upward. I do not want my students economic status to determine their success in my classroom. I have created a plan of intervention including differentiated instruction, and a balanced literacy program to combat those needs.
