Students are all unique in many ways. Asking them to all sit in a standard confining desk is not what helps them the most. Why should they have to sit in-mobile for 6 hours a day because the "average" student is more successful that way? Having standing desks/podiums and mobile seating like wobble chairs, inflatable chairs, and balance ball chairs that allows the students to freely move and be engaged in the classroom can improve their daily experience and retention. Many of my students have difficulty remaining focused and engaged during instruction, which leads to missed opportunities. Allowing the students to move and be comfortable in their space would let their minds focus. Having the flexible seating options will enable my students the stimulation they need with movement while learning collectively. A lot of the students prefer to stand. I cannot tell you how many times they are asked to sit. When really they are not doing anything wrong. Having standing desks would benefit them greatly. Along with standing, other students just fidget. A seat that can allow them to bounce or sway a little goes a long way. The students can sit quietly and go unnoticed while soothing their minds to keep them focused. All of these materials will allow my students to focus on learning to read and comprehend new material to better their education while building fine motor skills, and so much more each day! My students need flexible seating and a chance to not be still in order to build on their skills to promote academic growth and success throughout their school years. The students are great kids and try their best everyday. However, some days are long and very tiring sitting in the same spot the same way. Please help us move and grow!
