This year, we started the school year with several students who struggled to sit at their desks. As my co-teacher and I began to brainstorm how we can help these students, we began reading about the Flexible Classroom. Our classroom environment should be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. This simply cannot be done when kids are sitting in rows of desks all day. That is why we want to be able to provide each student in our class with flexible seating (a variety of options). We hope this will drastically increase our student engagement and productivity. We are hoping for a great year with flexible bodies and minds!
The Butterfly Stool Modular Seating would be a great addition to our classroom. It would provide soft foam seats that fit together in multiple configurations to create a custom seating space for the students. We could create a sitting circle, a central table with floating chairs, a long bench and more by rearranging the modular stools differently. It would be great for group activities.
We are huge fans of having students work in partners or small groups. Clipboards make this so much easier. Students can spread out and work anywhere. It also gives each student their own work space as well.
The Big Joe Lumin Chair would be a great addition to our flexible seating classroom. It is all about providing different options for our students. And added bonus....the teachers can use this chair as well.
To help us create a calming classroom we needed to diffuse the harsh glare of fluorescent lights (while reducing flickering and eyestrain). That is where the Light Filters come into play. We believe these will do the trick.
