I have a diverse classroom consisting of many students from other countries learning English and coming from a wide range of backgrounds. Many of them come from broken homes and families in severe poverty. My school is one where students do not want to leave on the weekends and summer is met with dread and tears. I know that education is one of the few hopes these kids have to break the chain of poverty and become responsible citizens when they grow up. The hunger for knowledge is something I see daily in my students, however it is often surpressed by the lack of resources I have readily available.
