I teach kindergarten at a very diverse K-6 Elementary school where many of the students receive free/reduced lunch. The majority of my students did not go to preschool. To be sucessful in higher level education it is so important to be reading at grade level. Many of our students enter school without ever reading a book before. This makes them already behind before they even enter school. They have started school already behind and with your help we can get the materials that will help close that gap.
