My students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. They get free breakfast and or free/reduced priced lunches. We are a title I school. Students need healthy foods and snacks as school may be the only place where they receive a healthy meal, or if they even get to eat at all.
When students have snacks between the long break between breakfast and lunch, they tend to focus more on their education and less on the pains they might feel with a hungry stomach.
Having a healthy snack will promote good health habits and therefore students will begin to make better food choices.
