My diverse learners are Special Education/ESL 6th & 7th grade students at a Title 1 school in Brooklyn. They come from low-income neighborhoods and have challenging backgrounds. They struggle with meeting academic goals, have language barriers, are below reading level and are faced with various educational setbacks.
My students have their own unique learning styles. Some are auditory, some are visual. Some struggle with verbalizing their thoughts, others have visual-perceptual problems and struggle to write. My students lose focus quite often, they need topics to be engaging and interesting to them, and taught in their own, unique way.
Despite their struggles and challenges, my students are bright, funny, kind, sweet, hardworking and always come to school eager to learn.
