In 5th grade they learn the guitar, then add bass, drums, and keys to make a class rock band. This is a hugely popular program and I am heartbroken that this year's 5th graders will not be able to participate since we will be learning at home. If I can get 10 more guitars and 15 more tuners, I will have enough guitars to send one home with every 5th grader this semester so they can still learn to play.
Teaching music remotely is extremely challenging, especially when they don't have instruments at home. Having a guitar at home will not only allow them to continue their music education, but it is a life long skill! Students will have a creative outlet and something to do away from the computer screen at home.
