As a speech therapist in the public schools, servicing students who are primarily low-income, so many of my little ones come from homes that haven't been equipped with books and words and conversation and all of that good stuff that develops vocabulary and language and cognitive skills. The pre-schoolers and early school age kids I work with adore a good book, and often come back requesting their favorites during our treatment sessions. It is clear that these little ones are hungry for the wonder of stories and the language they provide.
