My students currently have limited access to technology daily, in school or at home. I have four very old desktop computers in my class. However, these computers are very slow and do not always work. As I try to address their lack of 21st Century skills, it is very difficult when students are constantly saying the computers won't work and they have to shut down the computers and go back to paper centers. We also do not have headphones to allow students to listen to stories and lessons being read to them using computer programs because it disturbs the rest of the class. Therefore, my lower level reading students don't have access to this important component.
Currently, our grade level shares 15 laptops among over 70 students! This is why it is so necessary for my students to be able to use Chromebooks with headphones in class. We are also learning a lot in Social Studies about history and geography. I would like to be able to print their research and projects on a class printer as well. This project will allow students to have access to a variety of research and learning tools that will improve their 21st Century learning skills by giving them the opportunity to use the tools necessary to be successful.
