My school is a large school outside a metropolitan area in Kentucky. We are a family and our administration is working hard to instill a sense of tradition and pride. This current school year, I am working with struggling readers who, for the most part, hate reading. They have failed classes due to their lack of interest. Because of this, we have read contemporary works instead of only traditional classics. They love science fiction and works where they can relate to the situations and characters. We just finished The Maze Runner, and now they want to see what happens next. I also have one class for Young Adult Literature. This is an amazing experience. Students who normally don't read are experiencing new works for the first time.
