My students are new to the country. Their native language is Spanish. They are new to the school and new to being exposed to the English language. They attend a public inner city school in New York and are adapting to living in the United States for the first time. In the classroom there are no Spanish books for them to read and feel comforted by. In order to ease them into the school setting, and feel like a true student, Spanish books are important for them to fit in.
