My students attend a neighborhood public school in the inner city of Chicago. Although many of them are reading below grade level, their determination to succeed is what inspired me to create "Book Worms", an after school book club. I started my book club last year with a group of enthusiastic middle school readers who committed themselves to stay after school 3 days a week in spite of the longer school day that was instituted last year. A typical school day for my book worms is 8:45 - 6:00! I am in awe of their dedication and commitment. My students enjoyed the book club so much that they have asked to participate again this year along with other interested students.
