The Chess and Board Game Club, begun this year, is one of the most popular clubs in our school. Every week, as word spreads, more and more kids are signing up. We are looking for heavyweight chess pieces, chess clocks, and board games for only two players and for multiple players. Right now, we have lightweight plastic chess sets and only a few games. Our club is a safe, enjoyable place to socialize, learn, and have fun. It has nothing to do with cell phones or technology. More than that, playing board games encourages teamwork, improves language skills and memory, sharpens focus, and even reduces anxiety. It is wonderful to see our students challenge themselves learning to play chess and new games.
