My students are a fun and energetic group of 5th graders from a rural town in Pennsylvania. Many come from socioeconomically disadvantaged households, but we try our best not to let that interfere with their learning. However, despite our hard work, many struggle with the very basics of reading, which is a skill they will need throughout the rest of their lives. Our new reading program, Daily 5/Cafe, has brought my students out of the mindset that reading is boring. They are loving reading this year and are improving their skills each week. I want to keep reading alive by changing our decor in our classroom and making it more fun to find a place to sit and read.
