Basketball. Students in Chicago are Basketball FANATICS! They dribble around their neighborhoods, use anything from monkey bars to garbage cans for hoops and flock to the parks to get in a game. Basketball can be used as a hook to get kids interested in ANY topic from teaching spacial awareness to Kindergartners to eighth graders solving complex Algebra problems. Having access to Basketballs during Physical Education will increase the level of engagement during PE, during traditional PE activity as well as cross-curricular instruction allowing students to use their classroom knowledge in another environment thus reinforcing their knowledge putting them on the fast track towards mastery of their content.
