At a Title 1 school in a large urban district, my classroom consists of 22 third graders from diverse cultures and backgrounds who are curious about the world around them. Several students are newcomers to the United States and have varying language skills and interests. Learning alongside students who are more advanced requires extra choices for every student to become an active and independent reader, to build their confidence and engage their interest in reading.
