My students live in a large urban community in the fifth largest school district in the nation. We are a very large, Title 1 elementary school with over 1,100 students! Over half of our students are qualified for free and reduced breakfast and lunch due to poverty. Our state has the highest foreclosure rate in the nation which causes us to have a very transient student population. Our school district has slashed our budget and continues to do so every year. We do not have any money for extra teaching resources. My students come from culturally diverse backgrounds and for many English is their second language.
