I have 24 third graders in my class this year. They come into school ready to learn each day, no matter what is going on at home. I commend these children for their perseverance to become better students and overall people in the kind of world we all live in. My school is in a very urban community and many of the students have very difficult lives away from school. 98% of the students have free or reduced lunch. Despite all of these issues or difficulties these kids have to deal with on a daily basis, many of them come in with huge smiles on their faces, excited to start the new day and to learn what we have to teach them. They inspire me to become a better teacher and a better person. When they are happy, I am happy, and I want to be able to give them something they deserve for being the way they are.
