My middle school is a Title 1 public school serving male students from 6th-8th grade. My school is part of the middle school transformation model; it is a single-gender school for boys. This is the only single-gender public school of its kind in the state. The enrollment is approximately 400, down from 475 last year. This significant decrease in enrollment is due to revitalization of neighborhoods, surrounding school closings and school choice. Ninety-eight percent of the young distinguished men of this middle school are African-American. Ninety-six percent of the students are eligible for free or reduced price lunch. Evans, Michael E.
