Zenergy seats will offer my students a new and engaging way to be connected in the classroom. Alternative seating can benefit students who require more sensation or movement throughout the day. Zenergy seats can help some students maintain focus while at their desk and also keep students engaged. Some normal strategies that our nervous system uses to combat body sensations are to jiggle a foot, make small rhythmic body movements, wiggle, hum, or chew on the end of a pencil. Our nervous system produces these strategies to help us focus while we don't even realize we are doing them. Zenergy seats can help to combat these "normal" body sensations in some students that seem to have an excessive amount of movement, which disrupts the flow of classroom lessons.
The use of stability balls will provide those students with the sensation seeking movements such as shifting weight, bouncing gently, and engaging postural muscles for balance. I would like to have Zenergy seats available for my students to use at their desk. We often work in groups and move around the classroom and this type of seat is easy to move and can be arranged to fit the lessons need. Current research shows that different types of seats may help student engagement and this in turn will help the students success.
