I have a class of 5 and 6 year olds that came to school in the Fall with very little reading exposure. A lot of the population is very low socio-economic background. They do like having stories read to them, yet they get upset when we read together and it is difficult for them. They do like working on the computer daily and this seems to motivate them. Our school is in Southeast Georgia and it has a lot of transitions due to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center being nearby. When a new child comes in, that is not where our class is at, I would like to have the resources to help them "catch up". I would also like to have this technology to help with my struggling readers. Just as the computer motivates, I think the Leap Frog system would motive as well. By using this system, the children learn to track print when they read, to read one word at a time, and to hear the words as they read so that it is a multiple intelligence approach to learning, as well as fun!
