During the beginning of our class this school year I had several students come in inappropriate foot wear to go on a hike. I had one example where a student wore sandals and was told by an administrator that she wouldn't be allowed to go. So we borrowed a pair from another student.
She suggested that we get a class set of hiking boots and poles so that everyone regardless of economic means would be able to have the proper footwear and always have the chance to participate.
Getting these supplies will allow all students to participate with the proper gear to keep them safe. This will allow them to learn and experience things outside of the classroom.
