Imagine 25 six year old students filled with all the awe and wonder that is appropriate for 1st grade. Even though more than 70% of my school's population eat free or reduced lunch and over 50% are English Language Learners, the atmosphere in my classroom is that of excitement and opportunity. This year, I want to give my students the opportunity to hear the language of books. Most of my students don't have access to personal books and many don't speak any English at home. This makes it more difficult to become masters of the English language. I want them to be "filled" with every opportunity possible while in my care. I also want to cultivate a classroom of Thinking Readers.
