My students are from literally the poorest congressional district in America, but rise daily to the challenge of academic excellence. They are a diverse bunch, several from the Caribbean and others from Africa, and they now live in urban New York State. I teach 7th grade, but many 8th graders regularly return to borrow from my classroom library, so more than half of the school's students will benefit from this expanded library.
