Reading books is a critical part of a child's development. The supplies that I am requesting for my students are two sets of classroom books and one audiobook as an accompaniment. I will use the books in my classroom to promote the joy of reading to students who do not have access to books at home.
Many of the students I teach are below grade level in reading comprehension and fluency. By reading books together as a class, they are able to hear what it sounds like to be a good reader and they are able to practice. If each child has their own book to look at and follow along with, they will be more engaged, which will result in greater comprehension. Reading aloud also helps increase vocabulary and helps cultivate your internal listening skills.
