My students are 5th graders that live in a small rural southern Utah community. They come from different socioeconomic backgrounds, and some of my students have very limited access to the Internet and technology at home. Many have moved around a lot and have a wide variety of background experiences. They learn best by doing and creating. They get excited to see how what they are learning connects to the world at large. They learn best when creating and building projects that connect with the real world. These types of projects are more meaningful to them than the traditional worksheet approach to learning.
