The public school that I work with is the home to six classes (50 children) that educate students who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder using Applied Behavior Analysis therapy. This ABA therapy is used to shape the varying behaviors that exist. Each child is very unique and has his or her own individual needs. Some of the children are non-verbal and not yet toilet trained while others display challenging behaviors such as physical and verbal outbursts. The many behaviors that are displayed minimize their success in the Physical Education setting. These behaviors could be minimized if they were receiving the sensory integration therapy that they need.
