As I said before I teach students with special needs. Not only are they students with disabilities but the majority of them are also living in low income households. The school I teach at is a title one school and most of the kids receive free and reduced lunch (just to give you an idea of the economics in this part of the county). My students are eager and ready to learn but they lack the confidence and resources to become good readers. Even at the age of 4-7 you would be amazed at how much they realize about their own disabilities. I am determined to increase the confidence level of my students when reading, even if it means they just look at the illustrations in the book and make up their own story. That is the first step to reading!
