My students are Grade 5 through 8 English Language Learners. Most are Hispanic, many from Puerto Rico. All are at various stages of language development. Each of them learn at their own pace.
It is my job, as their teacher, to help them listen, speak, read and write in English. All the while, they are attending Math, Science and Social Studies classes taught in English. I try to support their learning in their content classes.
These boys and girls work hard every day to learn new material and a new language at the same time. My classroom is the place where they can be comfortable trying out their new skills and figuring out their new language.
