My students go to a large, open enrollment, Title I urban high school in Massachusetts. Many of them travel a long way to get to school, and many have jobs or family responsibilities after school that compete for their time and attention. And yet, they still choose to take on the most demanding courses our school has to offer in order to improve their skills for college and increase the likelihood of success when they move on to post-secondary work. Our school has been working hard to raise the number of students who are enrolled in Advanced Placement classes and to provide support for students who are enrolled so that they are successful on the exams.
