I teach at a Title 1 school in a mixed small town-rural setting. Many kids come to school not knowing letters or how to write their name. Many children talk about the absence of books in their homes. I am trying to create an environment for kids where books are available and are of good quality. They need to interact with books, even before they can call themselves "readers" to begin to develop the behaviors of a reader.
