At this point, I am lacking the ability to use big books without juggling the book on one leg, holding it with one hand, trying to turn the pages, and pointing/tracking the words properly for the students to read. I would need to be an octopus to be able to do this all effectively! With the big book easel, I will have my hands free to track print, point to clues within the pictures, direct the students' attention to parts of a word that will help them read, and work on seeking out the parts of a word they know already. The dry erase easel will be especially helpful when working on sight words, working on beginning and endings of words, suffixes, and word structure. My students will be able to concentrate on the story, the key elements we are focused on, and enjoy the lesson without being distracted by my acrobatics in holding the big book!
