Our elementary school has the most fabulous students with the greatest potential for success. Despite their socioeconomic status, their thirst for knowledge shines bright in them regardless of the many roadblocks that they face. As the school Social Worker I deal with many students who are experiencing a crisis, or who need ongoing counseling and support in areas such as social skills, emotion and self regulation, behavioral supports and those who may have a disability. These young students need to learn these tools at this crucial age in order to set them up for success in the future. On a daily basis, my students struggle to engage and remain on task in the classroom due to many different factors.
