I am a 6th Grade Teacher in Sparks, Nevada. The next generation Social Studies Standards, Common Core, and STEM are all coming online, and my students are in desperate need of technology. My students come from low-income houses, where computers are not something they have access to once they leave school. This makes complete learning a challenge. The learning styles and needs of children require tactile, visual, and auditory experiences. Children need practice and repetition with the many concepts that are part of history, science, reading and math learning. Students gain from working together, guided by a teacher, and yet they also need the leeway to work at their own individual speed and developing skill level. Based on the experiences of educators in this country and around the world, I would like to implement netbooks as a learning device that can provide unique and rich learning experiences for this age group.
