70% of my students are on free and reduced lunch. Many of them come from single parent homes and their only exposure to books is at school. We are located in a suburban area outside a large metropolitan city. Unfortunately many of our students move frequently. The population for this school changed to Title One four years ago and our Title One numbers increase every year. With these changes come big challenges to get students hooked on reading as a life long activity.
