Taking good notes is an important part of the learning process. Many classrooms have students sitting and taking notes straight from the board, not engaging in the process.
Visual notetaking, or Sketchnoting, helps students engage in their notes!
They allow students to keep an active mind and body, which helps them to recall the information later. While taking notes, students are actively thinking about what they are writing down, processing the ideas and content as they go. By incorporating text and images into notes, our brain is able to use this as a visual map to help recall information weeks later!
Collaborating with peers on whiteboards during notetaking also allows students to process their thoughts before making permanent notes in their notebooks. This builds self-confidence that students are gathering the most important ideas and information.
