Students at our school struggle with high poverty (98% free and reduced lunch rate), and many have difficult home lives which affect behaviors at school. Our staff maintains consistency and high-expectations for each student, and success is based not only on academic achievement, but positive behaviors toward each other. The neighborhood of our school is in disarray, but the community is coming together to slowly reinvigorate the neighborhood with new homes and pride in what our area has to offer our city. Our brand new school will be a centerpiece for that charge of change and a visible expectation of success in an area where defeat has been evident in the past. My goal is to support that pride and ownership by increasing awareness of our citizenry and responsibility toward one another, starting with what goes on at school.
