My students attend a Math/Science and Arts dual magnet charter schools. About a third are in the dual magnet, meaning they take two art classes and two math/science courses each semester. They are hard working, creative and talented. Many take an hour long rail/ bus trip every morning just to get to our school. My AP Biology students are some of the most dedicated in the school, as they have signed up for a course that is known to be rigorous and challenges them to solve problems, develop scientific intuition and collaborate. They never cease to rise to the occasion when I need them to push themselves to master difficult concepts and develop their scientific literacy.
